I went to Grand once. I sat at the small bar, which felt like sitting at a friends’ kitchen counter. I ate oysters and drank sherry (which I was convinced was going to be the next big thing in the bar scene.) it was dark, warm and inviting. I’m looking forward to visiting again.

It was such a beautiful restaurant, warm and inviting in a way that seems very personal.

My favorite dining experience while it lasted.

Grand Cafe was the place where we went to celebrate. Sometimes it was a special occasion, other times it was just an ordinary day but there was always an air of festivity when we were at Grand. We were sitting in a booth by the front door watching the snow fall when we got the call that the offer on our dream home had been accepted. I can still see the child-like excitement on my husband’s face when he looked at me and said “We just bought a house!!” The week before we got married, I took my girlfriends to Grand to celebrate. We piled into a big booth to drink, eat, tell stories and just be with each other. It was pure magic! Not every visit was a big occasion, sometimes it was a quiet dinner where we talked about nothing important but we were together, in a space that felt safe and familiar. Grand Cafe has so many special memories for us.

I think if I had to pick a favorite restaurant of all time it would be Grand Cafe. You created an atmosphere that was just right. Comfortable chairs, gorgeous, lighting, impeccable service, and wonderful food. Each piece of china, crystal and silver was special. I’ve never gotten over the pink champagne glasses and now collect Fostoria Rose. Lovely to read about how it all came about.

As you described, it was pure magic. It was a home. It was an experience. It was elegant. It was comfortable. It was obvious the care and intention you put into it. I went on dates there, I had ladies nights there, I had work dinners there. It was the space for every important dinner - even if they didn't feel important. Grand Cafe was so special. I miss Grand Cafe soooooo much!!!! We need a restaurant like that here again. <3

Grand Cafe was my favorite… I am still so sad that it closed. Your loving description of it is exactly how I felt whenever I visited. Every aspect of it made Grand Cafe special. Nothing was missed. ❤️Eileen

I LOVED Grand Cafe so much, I hope you are deeply proud of what you created. It had that intangible energy, the one that just makes you sigh and say “ I don’t know, I just love it there.”

I absolutely loved that beautiful, special spot which embodied hospitality, generosity, and comfort. The first time I visited was with my mom in June 2017, and we’d just come from the hospital visiting my sister and my niece—the first grand baby! We toasted this new little girl with champagne and hope that we could forge a better world for her. I just remember the way the dinner felt. Aside from deliciousness, we felt so welcomed and cared for! It was my go-to place for special occasions as well as a casual meal with friends—it’s so hard for a place to feel correct for both! Whenever friends visited, Grand Cafe was always my number one suggestion, before Spoonbridge and Cherry or Minnehaha Falls! So many wonderful memories were made there, and, fittingly, my niece is now 7 and absolutely loves all things Paris and pink and feminine. What a truly special place.

We absolutely loved Grand Cafe, and even loved supporting it during the pandemic, eating outside. We still miss the wonderful combination of spirit, great food, warm hospitality. No place else captures it the way Jamie and her team did. sigh...
